• Registered Domain Forwarding

From Warchilin66@1:103/705 to All on Wed Oct 2 15:41:24 2024
    Hello,

Is there a way to forward a registered godaddy domain my synchronet domain?

Also, does anyone know of any service provider that offers static IP addresses anymore?

    Thanks
    James

If you can edit your DNS records, I think the way is to add a CNAME record for your godaddy domain to point to your Synchronet domain.

I have Spectrum and the static IP works well for me. Not sure how to forward the
    domain.

The Control Panel I use is not the same as GoDaddy's, but there mine has a section
'Domain Parking & Redirection' where you can redirect the URL. Probably not what you
    need though.

    why you using godaddy?

    go into their admin console.
Also, does anyone know of any service provider that offers static IP addresses anymore?

that's really not that important because your router or cable modem will usually hold onto your ip address.

If you have a domain registered with godaddy, you should be able to have it's IP address(es) point anywhere, to any server on the Internet. This is not "forwarding", just "resolving".

Most ISPs (cable modem, xDSL) offer their "business users" static IP address (usually in blocks, e.g. "5 pack"). That said, a lot of "dynamic IP addresses" don't actually change that often so long as their modem stays connected to renew their address lease (so sysops often don't really need a truly static address).

    yes, create an A record

    Type = A Name = @ value = 123.456.789.000 <-your ip address

then save, within 30 minutes it will forward to your ip address.

i think this guy is thinking about the old days when you could just type in a domain to forward to. I think that's gone in godaddy. don't know, i havent used them and don't intend to use them in the future.

GoDaddyis crap, IMHO. I use domain.com.

You can do pretty uch anything you need to your domain and mail records at
    the drop of a hat.
