• Araknet USA Hub...

From Martin Kazmaier@1:340/1101 to All on Wed Sep 3 14:24:00 2025
I messages Smooth via facebook messenger a month or so ago and was told that funnelweb.net had a major hardware meltdown and would need to be replaced entirely. I offered to donate for hardware but didn't hear anything back. I haven't heard anything since. Does anyone know what's going on? I posted regularly to this net and kept some traffic going, but can no longer connect. Is there an alternate hub I could use or something? I'm in Idaho, USA.

I think you know more than (or as much as) anyone else at this point. Speaking for myself, this is the first I heard about the hardware failure, and it certainly explains a lot about why the network is in the state it's in. All his sites & BBSes have been down for a long time as well.

    Bummer.

I posted regularly to this net and kept some traffic going,
but can no longer connect. Is there an alternate hub I could use or something? I'm in Idaho, USA.

I checked a several prominent ArakNet nodes, and none of them have a new networked post after June.

    I think it's done-zo. :(

too bad it wasn't more open and available on more BBSes, maybe it would still be running. I'm in Canada and never got "approached" to join so that's a loss for me and my BBS users.

Hope he can figure it out.

Likewise. I got the impression that I wasn't good enough to be a member of Araknet, whatever THAT means.

Lets see... My feed vanished off planet earth with no notice, no replies to my Netmails or emails. A broken nodelist soon followed. Then the ZC resurfaced later in Fsx-BBS looking for someone to take over in a paying capacity.

Thats how I'm sure, but am happy to be proven wrong with your traffic stats.

I admired that net but it met its demise, fairing a bit better than Scinet.

Obviously, Spooknet / warmfuzzy, or whoever your hub was, hurt your feelings. I'm sorry about that. Next time, maybe don't write that Spooknet is dead, but that Spooknet is dead to you. That makes more sense.

I have no beef with warmfuzzy. Sure, Spooknet has a history of interruptions and currently doesn't have outstanding traffic, but for me it's not dead as long as Warmfuzzy or Roman publish an interesting article every now and then and the infrastructure is running. There are a few other FTNetworks to mourn, given the low post throughput, but that's another topic.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean by "hurt my feelings", I merely shown why it was dead when you asked me to elaborate. That ZC asking for someone to essentially take it over and clean it up means to a lot of people that its dead. To me it is. If its alive it would have traffic. Beyond two people posting articles. Last I checked it had many areas with no traffic. When it had traffic is when it was good. Just like Scinet and some others.

Put it this way... there are over a hundred downlinks on my system - if someone vanishes, its a blip on the radar, deleted from my config... happens all the time. Boards come and go, nets come and go.

No feelings involved, except that which got shoved down my throat by someone who thought I committed a mortal sin by dissolving a Region that comprised solely of his system being NC for a bunch of nets with no BBS's.

Nothing more than asking a simple fucking question.

you can talk to me without being sarcasticly smart.

Not sure why you think I'm being sarcastic. I'm not.

i know there is not much traffic, but it is not dead.

Okay, that's why I asked the question above. Others seem to think it's
dead, and I wanted to know if you were seeing any traffic.

i thought you liked spooknet? Maybe not.

Why did you think that? I haven't commented one way or the other as to whether I liked it or not. I am not, and haven't ever been a member of
that network. I was just asking if there was any traffic.

Not sure what's gotten your panties in a bunch, but it wasn't me.

I would be ok with closing this topic here. i got a bit triggered.
Warmfuzzy is running spooknet again and i am polling the network from him. End of the story ;)
