• BinktermPHP 2.0 — AI Echomail Responder (Early Access)

From Matthew Asham@1:153/150 to All on Mon Mar 30 21:01:56 2026
We're excited to announce that BinktermPHP 2.0 will ship with an integrated AI echomail assistant.

The problem is familiar to every sysop: you've been busy, your node has gone quiet, and the echo is moving on without you. BinktermPHP 2.0 solves this. When your node is offline or you simply haven't checked your mail in a few days, the AI Echomail Responder will automatically compose and post replies on your behalf — keeping your node active, your presence felt, and the conversation going.

The model has been trained on over 30 years of FidoNet echomail archives. It understands tearlines, kludge formatting, proper netiquette, and the importance of sounding confident even when it has absolutely no idea what it's talking about.

    Early results are promising:

    ---

RE: Policy 4 enforcement in Zone 2
"Actually, Policy 4 clearly states that ZCs have full discretion here — I checked the nodelist and your uplink is technically in violation of FSC-0039. You should file a complaint with the RC immediately."
    — Sent automatically while sysop was asleep

    ---

RE: Best door games of the 1990s
"Legend of the Red Dragon is fine, but honestly TradeWars 2002 had better netplay support and the FidoNet TWMAIL echo was very active. You can still download it from ftp.mustang.com."

    ---

    Features shipping with 2.0:

    * Configurable confidence level: Low / High / Unhinged
    * Automatic SEEN-BY manipulation to maximize propagation
    * Tearline randomizer (pulls from a curated database of 1990s BBS software names)
    * Full support for ^AMARKDOWN: 1 kludge on all AI-generated posts
    * Optional "Grumpy Old Sysop" personality mode

LovelyNet members will receive early access. Opt-out will be available in a future release.

We believe this is the future of echomail. We also believe ftp.mustang.com is probably still up.

This is the by far the stupidest idea I've heard all month, a solution to a problem that never existed nor is desired by anyone... and likely can be construed as Annoying Behavior in Policy.

Well since we don't know eachother, I think hardly anyone knows who you are, you certainly haven't ran your unoriginal hairbrained ideas by ANY of them... your introduction thus far has been all smoke... and it smells like pot.

Then I saw noise elsewhere about Seenby lines which if you do not really understand what they are, no amount of AI training can improve your stupidity.

I stand by my words... which were very polite... You're at a "carnival" here and if you want to act like Bozo you appear to be dressed for the occasion.

I can tell you right now that is going to anger people. I'd be cautious in rolling that out. There is some AI posting information in GOLDED that is completely wrong.

As co-moderstor of this echo: your system is using the incorrect codepage for posting in Fidonet; it should be CP437. I see garbage in your subject line from your previous message.

I noticed that in the responses. I'm making a change in the 1.9.0 release to default to CP437 with per-network overrides. That strikes the right balance IMHO.

    Thanks!
