My wife and I watched this movie and didn't care for it. The sound track was distracting, the out-of-place 8mm film footage was distracting, the bad acting (mixed with some very good acting) was distracting, the lack of chemestry between some of the characters, the lack of continuity of the hero's character, the plot was kind of dumb. I just didn't get it.

I suppose if you're a huge fan of rap, you could over look all that and enjoy it, but we just sort of hate-watched the whole movie. Spike Lee seemed to just kind of phone this one in (Apple didn't pay enough?), to me.

You don't have to be a rap fan, it just wasn't a good movie in every way. With Denzel Washington as one of the main actors i was expecting a decent movie at least. What a pity.

It's really strange about the good ratings. Given that it's fairly well known how Spotify charts are compiled, you could almost think that someone is manipulating the ratings for films too.
Or maybe it's a generational issue and the younger generation simply has different tastes. who knows.

I don't know about this particular case, but I am sure movie ratings in most common platforms are completely manipulated.

I remember films as bad as Time Trap getting very good scores from user comments, but when you checked the user reviews you could tell it was all orchestrated. Lots of people agreeing to praise certain part of the film that is objectively bad, or criticising certain thing that was not worth focusing on... that is a tell sign that it was an organized effort to affect the ratings and percection of the movie.

It is not so obvious most of the time, but if you pay close attention you often see this. You often see this happen with videogame reviews. For example, many reviews about Veilguard paraphrased certain sentences wortd-by-word.

i think the female ghost busters movie had artifically inflated ratings in
the beginning until reality caught up. rotten tomatoes still compares it to much better movies.

it was a bad movie with bad writing which blamed it's failure on misogyny.

you just can't trust any ratings. they're all lies.
even amazon reviews are plagued with paid reviews. i cant trust a review for
a product if this person got it for free and they want to give a good wordy review because they want more free things(vine).
